Ciara Williams – Counselling, Psychotherapy
“Inner Darkness is the root of all suffering” Dalai Lama.
I have been, working as an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist in private practice for 12+ years. The work, to me, is a privilege. My approach is person centered, humanistic and integrative, using gestalt techniques and cognitive behavioural therapy. I also use, at times, if someone is open to it, creative ways of working, using sand, art and movement. I work with individuals (over 18 years) and couples.
My hope, as a therapist, would be to provide you with support in a safe space to guide you along a path to positive change. Therapy can help you deal with difficult events and overcome challenging times in your life, the right approach will hopefully enable you to regain your equilibrium and feel stronger and more energised as a result. My professional practice is built on offering evidence-based processes that focus on alleviating the symptoms of distressed states including anxiety, depression & post natal depression, separation, lethargy, self sabotaging behaviour, low self worth, grief and loss, PTSD, parenting & family issues, childhood trauma, relationship issues etc. With new understanding comes the development of wisdom, self knowledge and of new self regulating skills
As a counsellor/psychotherapist I help people explore their lives, their beliefs, thoughts and feelings. I work with people in exploring current-day problems and and look at how they might be influnced by past experiences, at how people interact with others in ways that re-inforce existing patterns and fears and look to create new experiences and ways of seeing oneself. My aim as a counsellor, is to increase my clients potential through the process of integration. I can help them do this by supporting their individual needs. Unfortunately, many of my clients needs contend with those of society. Demands for perfection, competitiveness, the need for control and immaturity are often characteristics of our culture. Society’s neurotic expectations can dissociate the individual from their own nature. As people, we can struggle to dissolve our own inner conflicts and achieve integration. Society creates expectations of how individuals ‘should’ function within its framework and in an effort to be accepted, the individual ‘computes’ what he/she considers an appropriate reaction, often disregarding his/her own emotions, feelings and desires. “When the individual attempts to live according to preconceived ideas of what the world “should” be like, he brackets off his own feelings and needs. The result of this alienation from one’s senses is the blocking off of his potential and the distortion of his perspective” (Perls ’75).
People naturally try to avoid pain and problems. This tendency to avoid emotional suffering and problems is the primary basis of all human mental health issues. “It is through the pain of confronting and resolving problems that we learn. As Benjamin Franklin said ‘Those things that hurt, instruct’.
I encourage people who are considering starting on their therapeutic journey with me to come and meet with me, do a session, see how you feel and if you are happy to continue, we can proceed together and if not, I will wish you well on the next step on your path.
A session is 1 hour long.
The fee is 60 euros.
