Ciara Williams – Counselling, Psychotherapy MIACP
Ciara Williams MIACP, I have been, working as an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist in private practice for 12+ years. The work, to me, is a privilege. My approach is person centered, humanistic and integrative, using gestalt techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also use, at times, if someone is open to it, creative ways of working, using sand, art and movement. I work with adolescents individuals and couples.
My hope, as a therapist, would be to provide you with support in a safe, non-judgemental space to guide you along a path to positive change. Therapy can help you deal with difficult events and overcome challenging times in your life, the right approach will hopefully enable you to regain your equilibrium and feel stronger and more energised as a result. My professional practice is built on offering evidence-based processes that focus on alleviating the symptoms of distressed states including anxiety, depression & post-natal depression, separation, divorce, lethargy, self-sabotaging behaviour, low self-worth, grief and loss, PTSD, parenting & family issues, trauma, relationship issues/abuse etc. As we gain new understanding, it allows for the development of wisdom, self-knowledge, new self-regulating skills and ease. As the Dalai Lama has said “Inner Darkness is the root of all suffering”.
As a counsellor/psychotherapist, I help people explore their lives, their beliefs, thoughts and feelings. I work with people in exploring current-day problems and look at how they might be influenced by past experiences, at how people interact with others in ways that re-inforce existing patterns and fears and look to create new experiences and ways of seeing oneself. My aim as a counsellor, is to increase my client’s potential through the process of integration. I can help them do this by supporting their individual needs. Unfortunately, many of my client’s needs contend with those of society. Demands for perfection, competitiveness, the need for control and immaturity are often characteristics of our culture. Society’s neurotic expectations can dissociate us from our own nature. As people, we can struggle to dissolve our own inner conflicts and achieve integration. Society creates expectations of how individuals ‘should’ function within its framework and in an effort to be accepted, we ‘compute’ what we consider an appropriate reaction, often disregarding our own emotions, feelings and desires.
People naturally try to avoid pain and problems. This tendency to avoid emotional suffering and problems is the primary basis of all human mental health issues. “It is through the pain of confronting and resolving problems that we learn”. As Benjamin Franklin said ‘Those things that hurt, instruct’.
I encourage people who are considering embarking on a therapeutic journey, to come and meet with me, do a session, see how you feel and if you are happy to continue, we can proceed together. Some people want to do a couple of sessions, others work (sometimes weekly, fortnightly or monthly) for years. Some people like to establish a therapeutic relationship, and then call to book a session when life gets challenging. I work around whatever suits you, personally. Everyone’s needs are different.
I work with people in a one-to-one capacity (always in a well ventilated, sanitised room) with at least 2 metres distance between us. I also offer sessions online via zoom. To book a session, please see y availability below or you can call me (in complete confidentiality) on 0879104207 or email me at ciarawilliamscounselling@gmail.com
A session is one hour long. My fee is 70 euros but I am happy to offer an introductory rate of 60 euros to anyone who, for financial reasons, requests it.
