Systemic and Relational Psychotherapist
I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and perspectives, adapting my work to each person’s unique needs, experiences and circumstances. My approach is embodied, systemic and relational, recognising the interconnectedness of our bodies, our personal histories and the relationships and environments in which we live.
My early training was rooted in yoga and a range of embodied practices, which deepened my appreciation of the wisdom of the body and its capacity to support healing and self-understanding. I remain interested in how we can listen to the body, become more attuned to our experiences and access ways of knowing that extend beyond words alone.
I also have a deep interest in group facilitation and the transformative potential of community in the process of change. This interest led me to complete a Master’s in Systemic and Relational Psychotherapy, further developing my understanding of how we are shaped by, and in turn shape, the relationships around us.
My Approach
Systemic psychotherapy is grounded in the understanding that we develop and make sense of ourselves through our relationships and experiences. Our identities, beliefs, coping strategies and emotional responses are shaped within the contexts of family, partnership, community, culture and our relationship with ourselves.
Rather than locating a difficulty solely within an individual, systemic therapy explores the patterns that emerge between people — the ways we communicate, respond and relate to one another, and how these patterns can become stuck or painful over time. Often, these patterns have developed for understandable reasons and can be better understood in the context of our past experiences, attachment histories and the pressures of everyday life.
In therapy, we explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion rather than judgement. Together, we seek to understand what may be keeping difficulties in place, while opening up possibilities for new ways of thinking, feeling and relating. Whether working with individuals, couples or families, the process can help us develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and one another, creating greater freedom to respond differently and build more meaningful connections.
I am passionate about the role therapy can play in helping us meet ourselves and each other in new ways. I see the therapeutic process as an opportunity for growth and change, not only at an individual level, but also within our relationships and the wider systems of which we are part. Through greater awareness, understanding and connection, we can begin to find new ways of being with ourselves and one another.
The different types of therapy I offer:
Individuals
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes, there is a clear sense of what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. At other times, you may arrive with a sense that something is not quite right, without fully understanding why you are struggling or what you need.
Perhaps you have been feeling overwhelmed, fatigued or disconnected from yourself or others. You may have noticed a loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, a sense of numbness, or a feeling that you have lost your spark for life. You might be finding it difficult to make sense of your experiences, navigate a period of change or understand why certain situations continue to affect you in particular ways.
Therapy offers a space to slow down, explore what is happening and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences. Through the therapeutic process, we can begin to explore new perspectives, develop greater self-awareness and reconnect with parts of ourselves that may have become difficult to access. This can help us recognise familiar patterns in how we relate to ourselves and others, and understand how our past experiences may shape the ways we respond to the present.
Over time, this growing awareness can create more space for choice. Rather than feeling caught in habitual responses, we can develop a greater capacity to navigate the stresses and strains of life with understanding, flexibility and compassion. Therapy can support you in strengthening your relationship with yourself and others, reconnecting with your intuition and felt experience, developing a greater sense of agency in your own life.
Couples
I work with couples at all stages of their relationship, whether they are navigating difficulties in the early stages of building a life together or have been sharing their lives for many years.
In newer relationships, couples may begin to notice patterns emerging in how they communicate, respond to one another and navigate differences. Therapy offers an opportunity to understand these patterns, address difficulties early on and develop ways of relating that support the relationship they want to create together.
For couples who have been together for many years, there may come a time when the relationship no longer feels as connected or fulfilling as it once did. Life circumstances change, old difficulties can resurface, and ways of relating that once worked may no longer feel helpful. Couples therapy provides a space to explore what is happening, work through challenges and find a way forward together.
There are many reasons couples seek therapy. You may be experiencing a loss of connection or emotional intimacy, increasing distance or recurring conflict. Perhaps you feel misunderstood by one another, are struggling with sexual intimacy, are working through the impact of infidelity, or are trying to navigate a difficult life transition or change in circumstances. Sometimes, couples simply recognise that something in their relationship needs attention and want support in understanding what is happening.
In couples therapy, we explore the dance that partners can become stuck in — the familiar patterns of reaching out, withdrawing, protecting or pushing for connection that can leave both partners feeling hurt, frustrated or misunderstood. By recognising these patterns together, couples can begin to find new ways of connecting and relating to one another that are more helpful within and outside of the therapeutic process.
Family Therapy
Families can be a source of love, belonging and support, but relationships can also become strained, particularly when people are under pressure or going through periods of change. Sometimes, family members can find themselves caught in patterns of communication or conflict that are difficult to shift, leaving people feeling hurt, misunderstood, disconnected or unsure how to move forward.
Family therapy offers a space for families to come together, explore what is happening between them, and develop a deeper understanding of one another. It provides an opportunity for each person to share their experiences and perspectives, to listen differently, and to consider how they might begin to relate to one another in new ways.
My approach recognises that every family member has their own feelings, experiences and understanding of family life. Rather than placing blame or seeing one person as the problem, we explore the patterns and relationships that may be contributing to the difficulties. Together, we can build on existing strengths, improve communication, work through unresolved issues and find more helpful ways of navigating challenges.
The reasons for families seeking therapy can vary they may present as; communication has become difficult, relationships strained, Parents and children are experiencing difficulties, difficult adult family relationships, in navigating change, a particular family member is struggling, navigating loss or difficult experience, family members want to reconnect etc.
