Four Supplements That Help With Seasonal Allergies
4 Supplements to Help You Cope with Allergy Season
For many of us, allergy season can begin in early spring, and for the really sensitive, this could continue until late autumn. This leads to the use of over-the-counter antihistamines and decongestant medications, which can come with side effects like drowsiness or dizziness.
There are many natural supplements that help with overcoming hay fever and allergies, but I have found that the following four immune-boosting supplements are generally the most potent and will help you get through the season without any unwanted side effects. They also have the added bonus of benefiting our general immunity and well being.
1. Vitamin C
Vitamin C prevents the formation of histamine which is responsible for allergy reactions. It also lowers inflammation and shortens the duration of the reaction. Vitamin C is water-soluble and is safe at high doses so 2000 to 6000mg can be taken per day. It may act as a natural laxative, so be sure to increase the dose slowly and spread it throughout the day.
2. Quercetin
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid found in onions which is an effective inhibitor of histamine, decreasing reactions to certain foods, pollens and other allergens.
Recommended dosage: 500 to 1,000 mg two or three times per day.
3. EPA/DHA fish oils
Fish oils are a natural anti-inflammatory, therefore dampening the intensity of allergic reactions.
Recommended dosage: 2,000 to 6,000 mg daily with meals.
4. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
MSM has antiallergic properties equal to or better than over the counter antihistamines. Recommended dosage: 3000 to 6000 mg daily divided into three doses. Increase the dose slowly and spread it over the day.
Although I have found the above supplements effective in treating allergies in general, it could differ for you.
Muscle testing (kinesiology) is an excellent way to identify and personalise your supplements for allergies and general health.
The downside of supplementation is that they don’t get to the root cause of the allergy.
An allergy is when your body mis-categorises something that is harmful as beneficial or visa versa.
To correct this I use an acupressure tapping protocol which rebalances your energy system doing away with the need for any medication and supplements.
